Please understand... a lot of people who live in assisted livings can not afford to purchase supplies. So just like in the school system we use all sources to locate them!

Unfortunately there is a huge misconception on this site about AL, a lot of people think everyone is private pay but that’s simply not the case. And they seem to overlook the fact that AL is expensive no matter where you live and that a lot of people can afford AL but it takes up all or most of their income so they can’t afford much else :(

Try your local non profit, especially if they have a senior program. The one I volunteer at has one, and the sweet lady over the program, regularly gets and fills requests for these diapers.

If your friend lives in AL, why would she qualify for free incontinence supplies, if such a thing even exists? AL provides supplies that are added to the monthly bill. If a person can afford AL, they can also afford incontinence supplies. I know....I have paid the monthly bills in AL for my mother for years now, in addition to ordering her incontinence supplies on Amazon. Extras are supplied by the AL and added to her bill.

If your friend is on Medicaid, those supplies should be covered.

Please let me know if you find free Depends....I will jump on that bandwagon too and save my mother about $100 a month!

I love to thrift shop. In my own city the thrift shops are often just loaded with these supplies. I think perhaps people buy in bulk and then don't have a need, and that's where they end up. All in closed and safe packaging. Worth checking if your town is like mine. Almost nothing at all in cost. A lot of bed pads as well.

My thrift shops charge over $7 a bag for adult diapers, sometimes more, and the packages are not all secure and unopened!

You might find charities that can help in a pinch but I very much doubt that any organization will supply free incontinence products on a continuing basis.

I've found a link where you may find helpful information:

Your profile states that the person you're caring for is in Assisted Living. Why is she not already being helped to find the supplies she needs?

I was thinking the same thing, CM. Seems like they could help. Plus some of those places have access to buying in bulk at discounted rates too.
