Is there a way to get information about getting my friend long term care? She has applied but was told she gets too much assistance already.

She gets 850.00 a month SSI, and has her eye sight almost gone, COPD, heart disease, weights 79 lbs, arthritis, and needs help badly.

Something doesn't make sense here. With that income, she most definitely would qualify for assistance. Who does she live with?

SSI is a Supplimental income, like welfare. Social Security you get from working at least 10 yrs.(40quarters)

Is she looking at LTC in a nursing home? If so, I don't see the problem. She is well under the income level if she only brings in 850 a month. If that is SSI or any part is SSI (u can receive SSI and SS both) that gets dropped when she enters a NH under Medicaid. They are both state funded. Is she already receiving Medicaid health insurance as her suppliment to Medicare? That should have no effect on applying for LTC. Is she trying for in home care, again, I don't see a problem. Her income warrants the help.

So, how is she going about applying?

what other sources of income does she have? She’s not just getting SSI. If she’s not eligible for assistance it’s not because she’s already getting “too much” assistance, it’s because she doesn’t financially qualify. She gets supplemental social security so what about her regular social security? Pensions? VA benefits?

What kind of assistance did she apply for?

Is she looking to go into a nursing home?

Is she applying for NH Medicaid?

Who told her that she gets "too much assistance"?
