How to get reimbursed from Medicare for out of pocket medical transport from hospital to rehab facility and follow up appointments?

Mom fell and badly fractured her left leg and was transported by ambulance two hours away for surgery. She was just discharged from hospital to Medicare rehab facility in her town by Medical transport. They would not bill Medicare, so the charge was put on my credit card, her daughter. Now she has a followup appointment in Phoenix next week with surgeon and needs transport, either by me or medical transport. I have a truck that she will not be able to get into so I may rent a car. How does that work?

Thanks to all that responded. Called Medicare, they will send forms for my reimbursement, but further trips to doctor will be out of pocket unless doctor ordered medical transport.

When my father was transported from Hospital to Rehab he had to travel by medical transport due to fracture in his neck. He later had to go to get a fracture in his arm set and back to rehab. RR medicare covered the transport to the Rehab fom the hospital and his secondary picked up the remaining. When he was transported to the ortho he had to go by medical transport as he couldn't set up and the fear was that any pot hole or rough road would cause his death. The rehab picked up the tab on that trip to and from. Not sure how this would work for regular Medicare and this was RR Medicare. Good Luck

Save receipts if Medicare does not cover nor secondary insurance it is a Medical deduction for taxes.
But it is hers (the bill) so you would have to reimburse yourself from her account. (Or she reimburse you from her account)

Medicare isn’t going to reimburse a car rental and they may not pay for a 92+ mile transport either. As far as the transport to the rehab, you probably have to submit your receipts to medicare & hope that they will reimburse a decent amount.

I have never had this happen. The transport company may not except Medicare at all. This really is a question for Medicare. What about her secondary. Have you tried to get reimbursement from them.
