My father (90) had a VA settlement in the last 5 yrs. My mother needs Medicaid. Does this money count for her eligibility?

Her name is not on it.

Good question. My friends parents had a 60k settlement. Not sure if they were both involved or just one of them. Medicaid split the settlement in half. The father was applying for medicaid so his 30k had to be spent down, then Medicaid took over. Dad will not be left impoverished.

It seems that the mother never had her will changed. It read that he would get everything if she died first, which she did. So the other half of the 30k went to his care. My GF wondered if Mom could have changed her will leaving the 30k to her children would have been legal. You may want to check this out concerning Dad.
