Should I use disposible or washable bed pads and waterproof mattress protectors, etc. for my husband?

We are not in the position of using them yet, but I want to be prepared, as the time is fast approaching.

For my mother, we have a plastic liner on her bed, it zips around the mattress as well as a washable waterproof protector. The waterproof protector still sometimes leaks at night only saving the mattress by the plastic zipped protector. It is easily wiped down.

I found that the washable bed pads were bigger and stayed in place better, I only used the disposables as chair pads and to cut down on laundry when we were going through bouts of diarrhea. Definitely get a mattress protector, and you might want to consider how to protect the floor if you have carpets - those heavy mats used under office chairs stay flat and can be placed at the bedside or under a commode.

I’ve used all three with no real preference. The disposable pads are more expensive, but the washable ones can be more absorbent. Don’t use bleach. Before my husband was in a hospital bed with a plastic covered mattress, I used a waterproof mattress protector. That was a necessity as you can’t put a mattress in the washer. 😁.
