My 94 yr old farther a second world war veteran is the sole caregiver to his 87yr old wife with Alzheimer's. How can he get home help?

wallyandjoanie, sounds like your father is getting maximum VA Aid and Attendance ($2,169/mo.). Is the VA monetary assistance currently being used to pay caregivers? But to answer your question, yes, the VA may provide more help (e.g. adult daycare, direct home-health care and/or respite care in a facility). As GardenArtist suggested, call the local VA social work office to request more assistance.

Contact the social worker for your VA medical team, explain your situation and ask about assistance for your wife.

Is the money he receives from the veterans for aid and attendance or is it a pension? That might make a difference.
Does his wife have children who could be approached or other family? Since you didn’t refer to her as your mom I’m assuming she’s not.
Is there an adult day care in the area she could be taken to in order for him to have a few hours break?
What will happen with his wife should he pass before she does?

I would investigate Medicaid. If there is too much income, he can start a Miller Trust where the overage is deposited into a special fund. Call his local area Agency on Aging, or a Veterans Administration office to see if he’d qualify for anything else.
