How do I get a social worker?

I can't afford a cat scan low dose.

A doctor's office can refer you to a social worker. And as already mentioned, they're in hospitals and nursing homes as well.

If you are in the US, try your county’s department of aging. They should have social workers that you can speak with regarding your insurance issues or may have suggestions/information about community programs where you may qualify for a discount & that can help set up a payment plan for you to follow afterwards.

Most Hospitals have Social Workers.

I am not sure how it works in the US, but here in Canada, the hospitals are filled with social workers. I made a connection with the social worker at mom's renal unit (at the local hospital), and she has been invaluable in getting information to me, helping me through the hoops of getting home support and other services, setting up palliative benefits for my mom, and lots of other things.

You may also find help connecting with a social worker through a local seniors' community centre or seniors' information centre.

shonican, I am moving your question closer to the front page. Hopefully a caregiver who has this information can pass it along to you.
