Elderly sleep issues, does anyone deal with this?

My 91 year old mother becomes hysterical because she does not sleep through the night. We catch her napping, which she denies. Her physician prescribed her some anti anxiety medication to help her sleep, but she claims it does not work. She becomes so worked up that we feel helpless. She becomes belligerent when we tell her she is napping and that may be part of the reason why she doesn’t sleep. Does anyone else deal with this issue?

I think you need to talk to her doctor about the fact that this first plan is not working.

Has anyone suggested Melatonin as a sleep aid?

I went back and read your previous posts; were you ever able to have your mom seen by a geriatric psychiatrist?  It sounds as though your mother has more general mental health needs.
