VeggieG Asked September 2017

Husband with Alzheimer's sleeping 12-14 hours a day. Has lost his taste for many foods. Is this the usual progression?

Life2sh~ Thanks for suggesting checking the anti-depressant. He had blood drawn today to check his thyroid and other levels. If they don't show anything, could be the meds.

JoAnn29~ Not sure he's quite ready for hospice, but he is a solid Stage 6 on the 7 stage scale.

Yes, this is common and so is sleeping. Is he on a antidepressant? Severe depression also comes from which may be causing him not to eat and sleep a lot. Trying to keep him active and engaged is most important. I don't know what stage he is in, but I went through this with my mother. Also if he is on antidepressants they may not be doing the job anymore. I would suggest discussing this with your doctor. I hope this helps God bless you in this difficult situation.
