How much do caregivers make?

My niece is a CNA and she makes $12 but the agency charges $20 for her services. That pays payroll, SS, insurance, office staff, etc. It is how a business runs.

Depending on the level of care and the setting, and living arrangements, it could be more. But all the posters here have given a very good range.

The agency charges me $25/hr - but pays the caregiver only $9.89/hr.

A lot of caregivers work under the table/cash only at around $15/hr or do live-in permanent assignments at $1.6K to 2.5K per month. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this. I'm just giving you the numbers that I know of.

When I was checking out the cost a few years ago in the Phoenix, Arizona area, it ranged $20-35 per hour.

Mauel, it depends if you work for an Agency which is licensed, bonded, insured, has workman comp, and pays for mileage if you need to take a client to an appointment, etc. The Agency issues you a payroll check.

Or if you are an Independent Contractor, where you pay your own payroll taxes. You are in business for yourself so you will have expenses that you can deduct on income taxes, and special business forms to fill out for the IRS.

Another thing on pay is if you are certified in special care, or a Med-tech, LPN, or RN, your pay would be higher.

As cwillie noted above, it depends on location. Thus the cost of living in that area.

A quick google search tells me that CNAs earn between $9.50 and $15 an hour in the USA, with location making the difference. Of course someone using an agency will pay more than that to cover the cost of office staff.
