Is there such a thing as a Medicaid "waiver" to help pay for assisted living?

Yes in California we have a medi cal waiver for assisted living. You can be on both Medicare and medi cal . They are two seperate programs. Medicaid ( medi cal in ca. ) is based on income for seniors.

Also on your county website search for your local area agency on aging. It sounds as though you need a social worker/case manager who understands the Ohio Medicaid regulations.

I live in Ohio. I don't know if the social worker handles programs for the disabled and seniors. I am 73 and am disabled----use a walker---can get around a little. Still trying to stay at home.

What state are you located? NC and some other states have state programs that pay for Assisted Living for seniors and the disabled, who a doctor says they need daily assistance AND they qualify by income and assets. It's similar to Medicaid program for Nursing Homes, but, for AL and MC AL's. You say you talked to a social worker. Was it a social worker who handles programs for the disabled and seniors? I'd inquire again to see what you may be entited to.
