Mom's money is in her name and mine and I have been told that we will be able to apply for Medicaid when half of the money is spent. If this is true, how do I prove this down the road?

Mom moved into assisted living today. I'm being told that since her accounts are in both of our names, that it is possible that we may be able to apply for Medicaid when 1/2 of the money is spent.

No... unless you can prove that half that money always was yours and not originally belonging to her.

Your payroll check deposited to that account...etc.

If you spent any of that money that is your Mom's....then you will have to repay it. All of Mom's money goes to pay her assisted living costs...until it runs out...(less than $2000 left)....then she can apply for Medicaid. BUT! If she gave away any money in the last 5 years...that money must be repaid before Medicaid will take over.
