What are the rules for a disabled child? Are they the same as for an elderly parent as far as claiming on taxes?

My daughter is a brain tumor survivor. We live in Virginia and i pay most of her bills. She gets 1700 month and pays some of her bills including medical bills. She is on medicaid due to getting long term care in her own home. the irs says I can claim her as I have been in her home with her for the last 6 months not living in my own home. I do own my own home and hope to be able to live there again. She has had some issues in the last 10 months with falls and cannot stay alone.

No, I do not see how you can claim her. You see, she has told Medicaid her only income is $1700 a month. If you claim her as a dependent, meaning you pay more than half her support, she has to declare that support to Medicaid. That would affect her Medicaid status.
