What is the difference between Medicaid and Medicare?

How does a person switch from Medicare to Medicaid? Does Medicare cover nursing homes?

That's a good explanation above. In order to remember the difference, I used to think of Medicare as something most everyone gets when they are over age 65 as their health insurance or if you're disabled of a younger age than 65.

Then Medicaid, is help with your medical care bills if you are low income. Medicaid Medical covers adults and children who qualify of any age.
Medicaid also may cover the costs of Nursing Homes for those who qualify by income and need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health coverage if you are 65 or older or have a severe disability, no matter your income. Medicaid is a state and federal program that provides health coverage if you have a very low income.

Medicare can cover some of the costs of nursing home care and if the person has supplemental insurance some or all of the rest may be covered depending on your insurance. The rest would have to be paid by the individual receiving care. out of their income or assets. When that money runs out, a person can apply for Medicaid.
