What steps do I need to take to become a home health care aide for my mom and bill her insurance?

She has United Health Care, not the community plan. But she wants me to be her home health aide. What steps do I need to take? Help

If she is on Medicaid, you talk to her caseworker at the county social services.

Make sure the long term care insurance policy covers in home care. Also..many of them exclude family members from payment. The policy may cover education and training costs for family member care giver...but most exclude family member care giver from receiving payments.

The insurance company can give you the requirements. You will probably need some training.

You may want to double check with United Healthcare to see if, in fact, they pay for a caregiver at home. My Dad was on United Health, and he had to pay out of pocket. But like I said, double check.

If the insurance carrier does pay, chances are you might be required to be certified, taking the requested number of hours to qualify. And you may, or may not, have to work for a licensed caregiving Agency.

It would all depend on what the insurance carrier requires in your State.
