I am having difficulties with Medicare, Medicaid & blue cross questions. What can I do?

I cannot find any help with this. Mom is 92 had free medicare &a pd blue cross insurance plan but when I signed up for home help she now has to pay for her medicare and now has medicade but hasn't received any card and Im not sure whether to cancel blue cross or what. She cannot afford this she lives on social security

Bfly, I wonder if they'll expand offering the Integrated plans to your area at some point. You might keep an eye out. Seems odd to me they would only offer in some areas since Medicaid is a state program. Best of luck.

Thank you for your answers and she is in Oakland county. Everyone I contact tells me to contact someone else and it keeps coming back to the same person who gives me another person to call. It appears she has Medicaid and medicare so Im just going to cancel her bluecross. She lives on SSI and lives in low income housing so I think it will be safe to cancel

I did a search. There is a MDHHS agency, and a program called MI Health Link that tells you more about how to enroll in the Integrated plans. Looks like the MI Health Link enrollment is limited to certain parts of Michigan, which is kinda confusing, but if you are in those areas you can select from 7 different major plan providers. Were you aware of Michigan's option to enroll in Integrated Health Plans? This type of IMM hasn't been around very long in Illinois - only about 2 years. I think it's great. It's a one stop shop for all my dad's health care needs.

Bfly, perhaps look at integrated Medicare-Medicaid plans available in Michigan. If you can get your mom transferred into one of those plans, they operate much like a traditional insurance plan, with Customer Service numbers, 24 hour nurse lines, an assigned caseworker plus social workers for your mom. My dad gets his integrated M-M through Humana, and there are other major insurance companies that offer these type of integrated health plans. About 6 different major insurers participate in the Integrated M-M in Illinois. I always know who to contact with questions because it's all-in-one.

She never applied to Medicaid. She had free medicare and paid for a bluecross policy monthly...Now she received a statement from social security that they will be taking 120.00 out of her check for medicare and that she also has Medicaid. She was on a government program for some home help & that's how she must have gotten signed up...

Bfly48, She should have gotten a letter from the county social services, confirming Medicaid and giving the name and phone number of her caseworker.
On Medicaid, she has to select a managed care provider. Blue Cross is NOT one of them.

Ive spoke to Area on Aging office and Medicaid but they cannot offer advice. Im finding out a few things slowly but thank you for your help

Have you been to either an Area Agency on Aging office, or an eldercare attorney or estate planner? It can be complicated and can vary state to state. If she has Medicaid now there should be very little or nothing she is ever charged for. One other resource to find out if she has Medicaid and what her Medicaid number is would be to go to a hospital financial counselor, as they can usually look it up.

Medicare isn't something that just gets cancelled.

Are you taking about part B? Are you talking about the part B supplemental?
The part B doesn't get cancelled. The supplemental is cancelled if the premiums aren't paid,

They may deny payment of benefits to home aide....but they do not cancel policies except for not paying the premium
