Can my mother deduct fuel costs?

My mother is legally blind and on hospice. She lives alone, so my siblings and I take turns taking care of her at her home. We all live 3 or more hours from her. She pays our fuel costs. She owns her home so she itemizes. Can she deduct what she pays us for fuel?

Deduct fuel costs from what? Deductions for what purpose in adjusting her income? Not clear to me what you are concerned about.

Lisa - I've always been under the assumption that hospice requires someone to be there for all hours that hospice is not on-site. If this is right, how are you all doing this? Living alone, needing hospice with family hours away......seems like a problem waiting to become an emergency.
Has moving into hospice facility or NH with hospice wing been considered?
