My mother has dual citizenship in Canada and US. I need to bring her back to U.S. to live. Will she receive Medicare?

(b. in US; lived in CA 40 yrs). Will she receive Medicare even tho she has not filed US taxes for 40 yrs but has been paying CA taxes?

Thanks, Pam, I miss read the original posting.

selimo2, no your Mom would not get Medicare unless she had worked in the U.S. and had put payroll taxes into the system. Now, it is my understanding that she could possibly get Medicaid. Check that out with your State Medicaid office.

freqflyer, I think the CA is Canada, not California.

Your Mom would only be able to get Medicare and Social Security only if she had put enough into the system while she was living in California.

Probably not. If she was not eligible for social security payments, chances are she won't get Medicare either. Go to ssa.gov and check online using her social security number and birth date.
