Can other department in nursing home assist resident if see about to fall?

cwillie Sep 2016
I want to point out that even a nurse is not necessarily going to physically jump in to prevent a fall, many residents are taller or heavier than the nurses and having both of them on the floor and hurt helps no one.

My sis is a receptionist at an AL and she has had to jump in to help steady residents several times. Even though she is not a care aide or nurse she is required to complete an annual course in procedures and to have her cpr certificate. If someone has already fallen though or they are having a problem beyond her capabilities she calls the nurse asap before reassuring the resident that help is on the way.

I think he/she is asking if anyone in a nursing home can help a resident who appears to be falling, or if just the medical personnel can.

Shunshine, I don't know whether nonmedical personnel can step in, but I would think so. I wouldn't think they would just stand and watch someone fall.

What's behind this question? Did someone you know or who's in your family fall while an employee stood and watched w/o intervening? Or are you asking if you're an employee in a NH can you step in and help prevent a fall?

I don't understand your question.
