Elissa1 Asked March 2016

My husband (82) with dementia and Alzheimers is sleeping over 13 hours today which is very unusual. Should I be concerned?

His GP and neurologist have prescribed an anti-depressant and sleep med.

Elissa,is the sleep med a new prescription? If so, check with his doc about trying half the dose.

If he's taking sleep medication, that probably is one of the reasons he's sleeping a lot.

It was not at all uncommon for my mom to sleep 12-15 hours a night in the late middle stage off Alzheimers. I always was thankful for that, as was a great time for ME! Read the paper, do a bit of yard work, whatever I wanted to do. And occasionally that meant back to bed.
