What happens if Medicaid is denied to someone already in nursing home?

If spouse with Alzheimer's is in a nursing home with direct pay and medicaid was applied for and denied will they ask for removal of spouse.

Two, did this situation get resolved?

If assets were not reported properly, Medicaid will deny the application. You MUST fully disclose all assets or the Nursing Home can sue you and win. See the decision of HCRC vs. Pittas. Pittas lost to the tune of $93K and had to pay his mother's Nursing Home bill.

Have you seen a certified Eldercare Attorney who is familiar with Medicaid in your state? You are the "community spouse". There are assets that are earmarked for you to be able prevent your becoming empoverished.

This is sad. I was reading about NHs in Norway last night. Seniors are only expected to give 75% of their pension, no matter how little or much the pension is, to stay in NHs. The government covers most of the cost. Parents don't expect their children to care for them, though some do. Norway seems like the most ideal place for a common person to live.

Why would Medicaid be denied? Because the patient gifted monies within the lookback period? Then yes, I believe the facility would ask either to be paid for privately, or for the patient to be removed.
