Home care aide coming into the home but always things are missing. What can I do?

Yes it could very well be the aide.....But I would place something your self, & see what happens. Are you always at the home when this aide comes? I only say this because once it is reported, this aide will (usually) never work in this line of work ever again if she is kept track of....I am just thinking for myself I would want to as sure as I could be before reporting, this happening. I know of a few friends who took care pf their mother and their mother-in-laws & they themselves were accused of stealing & they were just heartbroken. a Yet on the other side some of the mothers that were being taken care of were NOT believed by their family that things were being stolen, especially if it was say, a grand son/daughter or a close relative who EVERYONE thought the world of.......Just my 5 Cents worth.........Marilyn

That is my husband's biggest fear, some stranger entering our home and stealing! While I know that it isn't a usual thing, it can happen. Maybe a baby cam can be set up to monitor what is actually going on, whe the caregiver is there, before accusing anyone. This is a tough one!

Do you notice these things are missing yourself? If you think it is the home care aide who is taking them, then it is time to find another.

One thing I also considered was if it is the elder hiding these things, then reporting them missing. This happens sometimes, particularly when there is any dementia. If you know this isn't the case, then, I would get rid of the aide. Unfortunately, there are some who are not trustworthy. The good thing is that most I have heard and read about are. (I have that dependability and punctuality being the greatest concerns, instead of stealing.)

First, make sure it's theft and not an elder losing things or a dementia issue. This is a serious accusation. Get proof. If it's clear theft is occurring terminate the employment, report it to the agency and/or call the police.
