Grandma has humana and she was told by the department of human services she does not qualify for a caregiver. Any help?

Texas now offers a statewide, comprehensive Medicaid program called the STAR Plus Waiver that helps elderly individuals remain living outside of nursing homes and helps families with caregiving activities. Also new is the Community First Choice Program.

We used a elder affairs attorney to file and receive a frail elder waiver (Mass.) which split my wifes assets from mine allowing her to qualify for medicaide while my finances are over the limit for medicaid. She now gets many many hours of covered caregiving

Medicare only covers Home Health not home care. I have a home care agency so I deal with a lot of people who do have Medicare. If they want someone to come and do light housekeeping and cooking, it falls under Home Care. If they need someone to help them with a wound or anything medical including physical therapy then it counts as home health. As a Home care agency we only accept private pay. They can combine both home health and home care and Medicare will cover the home health but your grandparents will have to pay out of their pocket for the home care portion. Same when it comes to the agency, the home health works with the insurance, the home care doesn't has they do not reimburse for the services we render. Call a home care agency locally and have them come for an assessment. I am located in the city of Chicago. I am not sure where your grand-parents are.

Are you saying she has tried to apply for Medicaid but has been advised that together she and her husband have too much monthly income? Who gave this advice? Or was it some other program she isn't qualified for?
