My husband falls and can't get up. Who can I call besides an ambulance that will take him to the hospital?

My husband is 80 years old and cannot walk. I am home with him and I get him around in the wheelchair.

Has 911 told you that you are calling too often? They really are the only ones to call. My sister fell and called a friend who came over and had the good sense to call 911. Good thing she did, because sis had a broken back. Please don't ask an untrained person to move him after a fall.

Calling 911 is better than calling an ambulance. If the paramedics transport in your area, or even if the paramedics call the ambulance after making an assessment , that trip should be covered by insurance.
Either way, don't hesitate to call! Those professionals are great to everyone in our neighborhood. They once drove a neighbor across the street in 90° heat (yeah, what was he doing out in his wheelchair is a long story); they draped a neighbor's house with tarps in the rain; and came over during their lunch hour for a photo shoot in the big red truck so a retired volunteer fireman could be added to the 100th Anniversary album of his former fire dept. 3000 miles away!
Good people! The only thing similar about each neighbor or each incident was that they were near 80-90 years old. (The patients were 90, not the firefighters).

yep, call 911 and ask for a lift assist. I have done this many times for my neighbor

Call 911 and tell them you need a lift assist. They will help you get the pt up and into bed. If they need transported, they will transport to the hospital. I don't know if all community emergency services do this but many do. Check with them. People falling at home and needing help up is a common problem so don't be embarrassed to call and ask if they provide this service.

Article: How to safely pick up a loved one (or yourself) up after a fall.
Enter that into search bar above.

At this point in his care, preventing falls is of paramount importance. You are correct not to try and pick him up once he has fallen. Does he try to walk on his own, then falls and you cannot stop him?

There are articles about falls above, ths blue bar, or try the search bar.

Calling 911 is probability the safest option. Since he cannot walk, I might look at other options for his care. Have you done that? It seems like it would be very stressful for the both of you to live that way. Does he fall often?

Really, calling 911 is the safest to ensure that he's picked up properly and assessed for injuries, especially fractured legs or arms.
