I have Parkinson's for the last 3 years, over the last 6 months i developed a breathing problem. Is this normal?l

Very short breathing pattern.

Blauer, please see your MD about this, get a chest X-ray and ask if you need to see a Respiratory Therapist. It is NOT normal and needs treatment.

blauer, many people with Parkinson's do have breathing problems when the muscles of the chest become rigid. It is something you want to talk to you doctor about, since it can lead to problems. Call your doctor next week to let him/her know what it going on. I hope they are able to find something that will make it easier to breathe normally.

Also note in your list if breathing problems occur with certain processed foods, and check the labels to see what chemicals (such as MSG, nitrates or nitrites) have been added MSG causes airway constriction for me and causes 10 - 15 minutes of breathing difficulty; I've been avoiding it for years but sometimes I accidentally eat something without checking first and recognize what's happened when my airway begins to constrict.

Nitrites and nitrates on fruit also cause respiratory discomfort, with strawberries from restaurants being the worse offenders.

Blauer, respiratory distress could develop independently and have absolutely nothing to do with Parkinson's Disease. If you can't get an appointment with a pulmonologist this week, go to the ER and tell them you're in respiratory distress.

I ask as did Babalou: what does your doctor advise?

This isn't a condition that should be left untreated.

In the meantime, make a list of the conditions under which this occurs, i.e., if it's after exertion, worse during the summer or hot weather, worse when you eat certain foods such as processed foods with inflammatory agents, worse during the day or night or about the same, etc.

What does your doctor say about this problem?

If I developed breathing problems over several months, I would call my doctor. If I developed breathing problems suddenly, I would call 911 and have emts evaluate.
