Enaida Asked November 2015

Can my Mom smoke in a home for elderly? She has dementia and does not want to quit.

She will be 75 years. We live in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and I am going crazy trying to find a home for her. The ones I have contacted do not have any case as this one. Please help!

I doubt it. Not many places allow smoking anymore, especially medical facilities.

Enaida, good luck in finding a place that allows smoking. In my neck of the woods, anywhere you go you will find "no smoking on campus" signs.

Pam's right. Even the rehab dad was in had a nice patio area where smoking is allowed. Patients and staff on break time would gather there to socialize or smoke.

She cannot smoke in the nursing home, but most places have an outside area that she could smoke at.
