Does anyone have a problem with person with dementia working with PT and OT but not with the caregiver?

My husband has frontal lobe dementia, as well as parkinsonism and diabetes. He does his exercises with the Physical and Occupational therapists, but around me doesn't want to get up from the chair or takes forever in navigating his wheelchair. I get frustrated because I see him getting up for them. Is it because I am his caregiver wife and he thinks he doesn't have to move?

sorta the same reason that, as kids, sometimes it was more fun to do homework with a tutor than with mom and dad....familiarity breeds contempt as they say....maybe a neighbor or friend can come in and be an "exercise buddy" or something like that from time to time....ice cream (or some kind of reward) after the work is done?

Emmy, when hubby doesn't get up and move, do you do things for him? If yes, time to cut back and let him do more things for himself...... he is in a pity party when you are around, but not when the therapist are there?

My Dad would work with the therapist but once they left for the day, it was back to the decliner.... [sigh].

It's the life of the family caregiver and appears to be the norm.

I know that with your husband's illnesses that you have a particularly trying life. Good thoughts and big hugs coming your way. I am so glad that you have some help with the therapists.
