Will ASF take over my parents' house, bank account, assets, etc., even if they can afford personal pay?

They don't trust the "institution". My parents are slowly deciding that they need more help than what Home Health, me, my daughter, my brother and his 2 daughters can provide as far as caregiving. They can afford to pay for assisted living. They are not veterans. They don't qualify for Medicaid. They only thing holding them back is that mom is afraid the assisted living facility will take over all of their assets. Even if they can afford to pay on their own, will these places still ask for their financial information?

Folks just moved to memory care for mom assisted living for him. He did not have to disclose anything other than the approximate value of his assets and his monthly income. In fact, I asked the question of staff and was told "No we do nit collect detailed information as it is none of our business". Mom, I don't know as I am not her POA, but assume the same thing.

My mom has lived in independent living for 13 years. She can afford to pay and she still has all of her own money and investments outside of the facility. There is no reason to worry.

If your parents run out of money, they generally just leave the facility. My mom has lots of friends who ran out of money over the years and had to find another place to live. But the facility never took their home, etc. My mom lives in a place that she just pays each month, it's not one where you have to buy your way in. Maybe your folks are thinking about those kinds of places?

I worked at an assisted living (supportive living which means that they can take Medicaid) Each month, the residents receive a bill and they (the resident) pays it. There is no co-mingling of monies.

But they retain control of their assets, if that is what they are worried about.

If your parents were going to rent an apartment, they would be asked to dosclose their finances. Same with an ALF; they have to prove that they can afford it.
