Do anyone of your loved ones take Trazodone and has it caused nightmares?

My husband has vivid nightmares some good but usually bad. Some nightmares are from the movies he watches on TV. I will not tell him what he can and cannot watch ! Just wanted some input on the effects Trazodone has. It does help him sleep but do the nightmares outweigh the benefits ? Is anyone on any other sleep meds that does not cause this ? I looked up Seroquel, Aericept and they both do not cause this. Thanks to all of you.

I think I will try and up his Melatonin to at least 3. 1mg just doesn't sound like enough. Thanks

I don't find Trazadone helpful, but no nightmares either. But be sure NOT to combine Traz with Xanax. One or the other my doc said.

Tarajane, You asked what dose melatonin my husband is on. At first I started him with 3 mg. Then upped it to 5. I see now at the drugstore they sell 10 mg. But, so far I'm sticking with 5. It seems to vary with the day, sometimes even he refuses any medication at night and goes to sleep anyway??? Who knows what's right. Another night and even all the medication doesn't work! Catch up on your sleep when you can.

I hated Trazadone. It made me feel as though I were wooden, anxious and couldn't move. I have taken .5 mg of xanex for 25 years at bedtime. It relaxes me enough to sleep. I'm not worried about addiction at this point! I've never increased the dosage. Melatonin gave me nightmares! Everybody's different.

My husband takes Trazadone with no nightmares.

There was supposed to be a "without" nightmares in that answer.

I take trazodone nightmares. I sometimes do have vivid dreams which are like watching movies. I rather enjoy them.

Tarajane, I take 1/2 of a 1 mg melatonin tablet. This is as directed by a sleep specialist. I take it 2 hours before going to bed. Both the amount and the timing are considered important by the specialists.

My husband takes Trazodone with no nightmares. My aunt was taking Aricept and had strange dreaming, sometimes nightmares. It can be a side-effect of Aricept.

My husband is on trazadone 100mg and Seroquel 25mg for night sleep, he goes to sleep as soon as he hits the bed and sleeps 12 hours. He does have occasional outburst at night ( very few anymore) and neuro Dr explained these as night terrors and not due to the meds, just in his sleep he is reliving a bad experience and is defending himself. A year ago it was 2-3 nights a week now I have not seen an episode in a month. Hang in there

He does take Melatonin but only 1mg. What mg does your husband take ?

My husband takes Trazodone with no nightmares, but it doesn't seem to get him to sleep long anymore. Rather than keep upping the dose, I also give him melatonin. When seems anxious and cannot stay in bed, I give him Calm Forte and that combo seems to work for him, unless he's SUPER anxious and then a generic Xanax does the final trick. I try not to use the Xanax more than 1-2 x week.

My mom has been switched from klonopin to melatonin for sleep. Both were good sleep aids.
