Will Medicare help in the interim when I am unable?

If surgery proves a devastating diagnosis, how will I take care of the final arrangements to help my disabled husband.

Caregivers who get sick! help.

I'm going to guess your husband is on social security disability and is below the age of 65? If so, you would have his monthly disability check and medicare coverage for his medical expenses. You may have been living on this, with no other income. Would that be your situation? Also, do you own the home? These things matter in terms of what options to look at.

The other question is either of you a veteran qualifying for Aid in Attendance? This means you are shut-in, legally blind, or unable to see to your own care. This could pay up to about $1800 for the vet or $1100 for the widow.

I'm not on Medicare yet. He is. We'll find out more next week. I may have to get home care or respite care at a facility.

Daffodilgal, to get any idea on what Medicare will or will not cover, go to this link.

I know it is tough when you are a caregiver and you yourself have a health crises. Medicare will help you with various drop in nurses and therapists, but not around the clock care. You might want to look into the cost of hiring caregivers from an agency to come help you.
