What if my Dad isn't elgible for Medicaid, are there any programs to help pay his caregivers?

If you pursue Dad paying you for care, make sure you see an elder law attorney to prepare a care agreement.

JP, if your Dad isn't eligible for Medicaid that means he has too much money [be it cash, savings accounts, houses, etc.] If that is the case, then your Dad can afford to pay you and your husband to be his Caregivers, there is nothing wrong with that. Otherwise, he can pay an agency to send over Caregivers to help.

JP - how do you know he in ineligible for Medicaid?
Did he actually apply? Was there a transfer of assets? Could the annuity be the glitch in qualifying for Medicaid?

Is your dad a veteran? If so, check the Veterans Administration for a program called "Aid and Attendance".

If he is not eligible for Medicaid he must have something. Income over $2,000.00 a month? He should be paying a share of household expenses at a minimum. If he has assets those should be used for his care and you are providing it. It would require a care agreement so he is not penalized as Medicaid would consider any assets transferred a gift.
