Has anyone used the prescription Namenda for Alzheimer's?

My husband has been taking Namenda for 2 years and is beginning to get worse. Namenda is very expensive (even with help from the insurance. I don't mind the expense IF necessary

My mom was put on Namenda in Nov 2011. She since then has fell and broken a hip in Dec 2014, and then her pelvis in May 2015. Each time she falls, either from the anesthesia or the 'visit' to the hospital and rehab, she forgets more. Namenda is expensive and is not a "cure" but is just to slow the progression. Honestly by the time she was on it in 2011, she didn't "improve" from taking it but it seemed to help for a little while; maybe a year or so. Now she's on it again but I'm not sure I'm going to keep her on it.

i think like all these drugs it doesn't ever aim to cure merely to slow down the progression so your husband will get worse. Because I am curious by nature I would want a reassessment and revisit the medications to see whether progression was indeed speeding up and if so at what sort of rate?

Only then can you (IMHO) make decisions. Good luck honey I hate this bloody disease

When it quits working, it's time to discontinue it, in my opinion. Talk to the doctor about weaning off. Namenda is only good for a few years anyway.
