Can we purchase burial insurance for my Mom (77) in a nursing home?

My Mom's in a nursing home. Her only income is her Social Security. She does not have any burial insurance. She is 77 yrs.

Yes you can buy. Burial insurance (aka funeral insurance) is a basic issue life insurance policy that covers people's burial expenses.

Burial insurance is promoted as a way to pay in advance for your funeral expenses so that your loved ones won't have to pay for your funeral. There are many things you can do to make your death easier on the wallets of those you love. Planning your funeral saves money and grief, as well as deciding whether you want to be buried in a casket or cremated and put into and urn, figuring out who gets what part of your estate, and which company to choose for your perfect life insurance policy (if you're a senior).

You can also pre-pay at a funeral home so that you can avoid increases in rates later and respect her wishes. We just paid 3700 for a cremation in advance for my mother, 88.

You most likely can. They advertise on TV all the time. These companies generally don't ask health questions...but the benefits are limited the first two years. Here's one particular link:

There are plenty of others.
