My wife will be 62 this year and on disability. Can she get Medicare benefits?

I plan to retire this june at age 68. I will apply for ss benefits at age 70. i work now and have employer health benefits for both of us. i was thinking my wife could file for medicare benefits at 62 this november. i signed up for medicare in september of 2014. my employer health benefits will be gone when i retire but i will have medicare but my wife will have nothing unless she can sign up for medicare at her age of 62 and now on disability. thank you. denny

If she is on SSDI, she should be able to get Medicaid. I think there is a dovetailing between SSDI & Medicaid within the application. Since she was covered under your policy, it was not needed to be done.

For Medicare you apply at 65. There are some specific disabilities - eg permanent kidney failure - that enable for Medicare coverage before 65 though. You need to contact CMS to see what is needed to get a waiver for under 65. Good luck and post what you find out.
