In NY does POA turn into conservatorship or is conservatorship only done through a court process?
If someone has financial POA does that automatically change to conservatorship if my elderly mother becomes incapable of making financial decisions on her own?
I am a Guardian in NY. POA is not the same as Guardian and the only way to get Guardian status is to petition Surrogate's Court with an attorney at your side. Plan on spending $3K if it is a simple uncontested hearing.
