My brother (62) has a heart function is between 10 and 15 percent. What are your thoughts?

eguillot Jan 2015
What is the cause? I caught a virus that caused my heart's ejection fraction to go down to 20% for awhile, but it is back to normal now. I was pretty sick for a couple of years, but getting the right cardiologist is key.

That's pretty low - if it is real chronic and the person does not have much exertion, liek some of my muscular dystrophy patients, they mark perk along for a while - is he on any medicaiton for it? More important, what does his cardiologist say about the cause and the prognosis?

What are the Drs suggesting. As Pam says this is an emergency or call Hospice there is no inbetween with that low an ejection fraction, it should be 60+

If you mean his ejection fraction is 10-15%, he is in deep trouble and will need immediate intervention. Usually there is fluid around the heart. That can be drained off. If a valve is damaged in the heart, it has to be repaired. If he has an irregular heartbeat, he may need a pacemaker. Many possibilities
