Any positive experiences with Fosamax (alendroante) and a "senior senior"?

For myself I can't take any type of pills to rebuild bones, it upsets my stomach to no end, even the over the counter calcium pills. I will just take my chances. My next bone density test might scare me into doing something, what I don't know. I don't want to go around chewing on Tums and Gas-X.

My Mom, on the other hand, takes the heavy dose over the counter calcium pills, drinks three glasses a milk a day, eats cottage cheese and ice cream, daily yogurt, and puts shredded cheese on a lot of things. Knock on wood, she's 97 and never has broken a bone, yet she hasn't fallen that I know of.

MIL fell last night. The leg bothering her since starting Fosamax "buckled" on her. She was at my BIL home and went to the ER. Home now and will not be taking any more. Her doctor is not a geriatrician. I will accompany her to her next appt.
Boy oh boy, between my mother (resides with us) and my MIL our vacation was anything, but a vacation. I am tired.

Fortunately my mom has actually had a good experience with it, her bone density test last year was good.For some people it works great and for some they had every side effect in the book .Just have to work with your MDs.

Is your mil ' s doc a geriatrician? If not, you should get her to onr. Fewer meds, few side effects.

I totally agree with you. So does the FDA. So do many cardiologists.
