What is the maximum yearly $ amount of a gift for an individual (elderly parent) to qualify for Medi-Cal?

As far as I know, Helen, there are no limits specifically for gifts. The limits are on monthly income and on total value of assets. If gifts put an applicant or recipient over those limits there is a problem.

For example, buying groceries for a Medicaid recipient would not be a problem in itself. But if the recipient is now able to save the money she would have spent on groceries and her bank account builds up to over the allowed amount, then there may be an issue. If the groceries gift simply results in more nutritious and/or more desirable food and the recipient is using her freed-up grocery money to upgrade her winter wardrobe, no problem.

Before giving gifts to a person who will be soon applying for Medicaid or who is on Medicaid, you might want to check out the specifics in your state.

Are you asking how much she can give away, or how much she can accept?
