Can a POA keep other family members from visiting the elderly person in a nursing home/not share pertinent information?

My grandmother who raised me is in a nursing home. My aunt is her POA and she has told the nursing home not to let me know about important information pertaining to my grandmother. My aunt is very sick and rarely visits her, I visit her every day and sometimes accompany her to doctors appointments. I do not want my aunt to be able to restrict my visits or keep me from knowing what is going on with my grandmother. What can I do, any suggestions?

You can tell more from your visits than you can by looking at medical records. Just keep going there and enjoy your time. My guess is they don't want you to try and change anything. Just make sure Grandma is getting good care by visiting. It really does make a difference.

those poor nh staff walk a fine line between working with all concerned family members and stringent hipaa laws .

you might be able to get a hipaa form from g mas family doc . get grandma to sign it and file it with nh . my cuz tried to ban me from seeing aunt edna in nh . it backfired badly on her and edna told staff they could toss daughter out instead . poa doesnt necessarily overrule the desires of the elder unless they have been declared incapacitated by a judge .
