Has anyone had problems getting electric scooters or wheelchairs purchased from The Scooter Store through Medicare?

The Scooter Store is supposedly out of business due to Medicare fraud. My husband's electric wheelchair is in need of repair. Responders both locally and on the internet indicate they will not repair because they cannot obtain the Medicare info from Scooter Store to pay for the repairs. Has anyone else faced this problem?

I got my Dad a hoverround from a place here called Act. They lend out all types of medical supplies.

Check with the assistive technology project in your state. They can help you find reputable dealers/repair shops in your area. Go to your favorite search engine and search "assistive technology project" and your state. They can also tell you about other technology options as well as home modifications.

Medicare officially announced it will pay for repairs to power mobility devices (PMDs) that previously were classified as capped-rental items provided by The SCOOTER Store.

Medicare will pay for repairs performed on or after Oct. 24, 2013, which was the date that The SCOOTER Store “transferred titles to capped durable medical equipment rented to Medicare beneficiaries,” according to a Jan. 16 MLN Connects from CMS. “Medicare beneficiaries now own this equipment,” according to the publication.

Medicare stated it will pay for repairs “if the contractor determines that the repairs are reasonable and necessary in accordance with Medicare regulations and program instructions.”
