Has anyone had experience with Namenda XR in the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease?

Forest Labs will be discontinuing the sale of Namenda (recommended dose is 10 mg. twice daily) in August. At that time, I will have to switch my mother from Namenda to Namenda XR which is a once-daily formulation of 28 mg. I am concerned with the possibility of side effects with the higher daily dose. Should I be concerned? Forest Labs has informed that the two dosages are comparable. But how do they know since they were tested head-to-head in clinical trials? So, I remain skeptical.

My mom is on Namenda XR. There's not much of a difference. She repeats herself 3x an hour with it. There's nothing to improve the state their brain is in with dementia anyhow. It's just to keep it from failing faster.

I know it is different for everyone but my mom is on namenda xr 14mg. and it has been a life safer for her.

We switched my mother from Namenda to Namenda XR. Initially I didn't notice any difference. But I later got a geriatric psychiatrist, and she took my mom off both Namenda XR and then later Namenda (when we tried it again). She had also taken Clonazepam to deal with anxiety, which the geriatric psychiatrist also took her off. When she was off both, eventually her MMES score went up not down. I didn't notice any real positive value of Namenda or Namenda XR in terms of cognitive management. I am sure it is different with different people.
