Unfortunately (or fortunately) Mom's GP just retired. Sigh. So, I am going to take this as a good thing and go ahead with the Neurologist and Psych. Depends on which one has the first opening! Lately it is a 3 plus month waiting period.
I was told by mom's GP that the longer we wait on the more serious of meds, the better off it would be for her. (not me)
A neurologist, but not just any neurologist. A board certified specialist who has expertise in Alzheimers. I know too many neurologists who are idiots and they practice pain shots and not much else.
Either a behavioral neurologist with a focus on dementia, and/or a geriatric psychiatrist would be useful at this point. The GP could remain the primary care doctor, if you and your mother are satisfied with his/her general care, but for dementia a specialist would be best.
