I'm trying to find a home health care aide in Columbus ohio (ohio home care waiver). Any advice?

It's HARD! Any suggestions would be appreciated! oh also the article by Carol Bradley Bursack, Expert
Author, speaker, columnist and eldercare consultant said to ask for references. The agencies will not let you see those. Why not??? All agencies refuse citing HIPAA. They use that for everything. Not only agencies but everybody! it's a catch all phrase everywhere it seems. Thanks.

We have a law now in Ohio that agencies have to do background checks. But I know one that doesn't. Each state is different. Oh...and yes I did report them. :) Laws are different in every state. And background checks only say that they got caught. :) I want to talk to clients the aide had before. Agencies won't allow that. I say it should be public record! I'm contacting senators to see if I can get something done about this. I can't make a career or finding aides. If this one is bad I'm going to the news to ask for one.

I think I finally got my prayers answered. Time will tell. They can't ALL be bad....I pray this one is as good as she seems.

If you're hiring a caregiver privately (not through an agency) you can get references but if you're going through an agency you can't get information on their caregivers. The agency does all the background checks and reference checking on their employees.

Agencies can share their proof of insurance, proof of licensing, they can share state reviews and you can check their record with the BBB or State Health Dept. What they can't share is individual records of patients and employees. Ohio requires individuals to register and certify training and does background checks. If you interview someone, ask them to show you their certification or check them yourself at ohmits.com.
