Looking for someone to be with my Mom who has early/mid dementia. Where to look?

So dad can have a few hours out now and then.

Hi DeeDee, There isn't much background in your profile so I hope my response meets your needs. Is there a neighbor that would meet your needs? Sometimes 'stay at home' Moms have some free time while the kids are at school. Also, a recent retiree may be available to help out. You can also find companions through the home care agencies, visiting nurse assoc, etc. I had success talking with the office at a nearby church. They named someone on the spot and I asked them to have her call me. It worked out very well.

Since you are seeking occasional help, the agencies may be less able to meet your needs and will be more expensive. For that additional cost, they will do background checks, etc. You might begin by making a list of what you expect. Household duties? Strict companionship? Laundry? Meal prep? Once you know what you want the person to do, it will be easier to seek help. Regardless of how you identify candidates, I suggest you remove or lock up all financial data, family heirlooms, expensive jewelry, etc. This protects everyone as small items get misplaced and the newest addition to the household can be falsely accused.

The nearest Senior Center. Get her interested in activities or a card game.
