Granddaghter Asked February 2014

What are my rights as a granddaughter?

jeannegibbs Feb 2014
What kinds of rights are you concerned about? Visitation? Care? Decision-making? Inheritance? Do you have a formal, documented role for your grandparent, such as power of attorney? Are other family members in conflict about your rights?

Provide a little more background, and you will probably get more specific answers.

With respect to patient care, the spouse has first rights. If there is no spouse, the children, are next and they must all agree or appoint one among them to be a caregiver or health care proxy. If there are no children still alive, siblings are contacted or nieces and nephews. Finally they move on to grandchildren if all of the first and second generation is not available
