How do you properly thank the caregivers for their amazing love and support?

Ziggie Mar 2014
My mom has hospice nurse come once a week, and home health aid twice a week. I give thank you cards with written thoughts of appreciation and a restaurant gift card tucked inside. I did this for Christmas too.

If you have found a great nursing home,I would write a letter to the editor in the local paper and give them some much needed public appreciation - and a gift card for the store of their choice would be nice too.

Gift cards are also nice or letting them know you will bring in lunch for the care team, etc. I agree that a nice handwritten thank you is cherished pointing out something especially meaningful or touching that they did to make your loved one feel special or easier for family.

The staff at my mother's NH are amazing, always going above and beyond, but I know from the odd comment that they are all part time (the employer's way of not having to give vacations or benefits) and have a second job as a caregiver as well. Next time I shop I'm going to buy a big tin of cookies & chocolates to be put in the staff room for all to enjoy.

Pay it forward. Be there when they need you. For nurses and other professionals, a handwritten letter is a rarity and much appreciated. Letters of commendation to their superiors is also rare and wonderful.
