What if your Mom hasn't been paying taxes for years now and need to know if she qualifies for Medicaid?

With second stage of dementia coming forward fast how do I determine whether Mother will qualify for Medicaid. She has private health care plus Medicare. She set up years ago a funeral trust which was used for my Father. Now she has a living trust in place for herself with a couple of other life insurance policy. How does this all work? There is so much to know and I don't think I can afford to wait until things happens when are really going to need this information. I also think she might qualify for Veteran's assisstance. Not sure about that either

Itabak, if he is a veteran, go to va.gov and see if he qualifies for "Aid and Attendance" payments.

I have been taking care of my father inlaw and can not work because he is wheelchair bound and can't care for himself. So is their any way I can get paid by the state for my services?

Please consult an Elder law attorney. Laws vary state to state. By gettting all in order now, it will ease potential problems later.

Go back to the attorney.. My Mom paid one price for her attorney's advice so when she applies for medicare he'll submit/advice the paperwork all included...

Rules vary from state to state. Start with your state's Medicaid rules. Get five years of bank statements together if you think she qualifies. If you can, sit down with the attorney who set this trust up and ask him to explain it. He has every right to charge you an hourly fee for his advice.
