Any advice on caring chafing and pressure wounds?

Mom has limited mobility. We try to change her 4-5 times a day. We use caldesene and calmoseptine to keep the chafing and pressure wounds (2) at bay. Any other sure fire treatments that would help?

I read an article yesterday that said preparation was good for pressure wounds and helped the healing.

Try Weleda Diaper Cream for diaper rash, it is really good and healing. An NP also suggessed Pericare which you can get on line. I also us Arnica to stimulate circulation and relieve pain. You may be able to get a Gel Foam bed pad, Costco has this for an inexpensive price.

Relieving the pressure helps too. Every 2 hours reposition your mom and prop a folded over pillow or towel under her hip/butt. In 2 hours relieve that side and prop up the other side.

Hi fraulein, my dad has the exact problems, the pressure sores are on the buttocks almost constantly as he sits all day long. It is important that your mom changes her position at minimum every two hours. I try to get my dad to stand for a minute or two, lean to the side, walk to the kitchen and so on. I have had good results with SSD (1% silver sulfadiazine cream, it is prescription. After I apply that, I cover the sore with Balmex (the hospital uses it.) You can find Balmex on the baby aisle where the diaper rash creams are. It is easier to apply than the others and will not stain clothing. Lastly, I got dad to purchase a air cushion. It is a top of the line cushion made by Roho. They do come in different sized and thicknesses, If dad doesn't use it, he can tell the difference. These cushions are expensive, we got his on ebay. For fungal infections, I use soap and water, spray with apple cider vinegar and dab dry. It counteracts the yeast, found in your local grocery store! There are also mattress pads like they use in the hospital for the whole bed, a medical supply store can help with those. Best of luck and hang in there, with constant care, they will go away, but alas, tend to come back. Blessed holidays to you,
-Annie

PSTIEGMAN: Thanks for your help. The rental beds are cheap automated folding cots-that has never worked. I'll look into renting a sleep number bed, maybe that will help. Did not know that the baby wipes came with lanolin and baby oil. Will also look into the sheepskin. Thanks and blessings to you!

A waterbed or sleep number type air bed to get the pressure off. The MD can recommend a hospital bed with a special air mattress, and Medicare may cover the rental. When you change her, use baby butt wipes and baby oil with lanolin in it. If you can get her to lay face down, try therapeutic massage, again see if the MD will order the treatment. Real sheepskin helps take pressure off heels and elbows, the natural lanolin in real sheepskin helps.
