What rights does a person have to know that he is being confined to a nursing home and is signing over power of attorney?

This is my main concern. I do not want power of attorney. I do not want any of his estate. I do not know if I am mentioned in his will nor do I care. I don't even know if he has a will. I only want to know if his rights were violated and if so, what can be done about it.
