My 53 year old son is on disability. Now he is eligible for medicare will he be eligible for medicaid?

For the last 2 yrs he has been paying BC &BS for his medical and drugs which is 50.00 a month, it is part of his benefit package he worked for the Co. for 20 yrs. before he had a stroke and is not able to go back to his position or any other position in the company. If they drop him from his insurance will he be able to go on medicaid?

When you are on disability you are automatically eligible for Medicaid. In some states this happens at the time you qualify for disability payments, and in other there is a separate application process. Please help your son look into this as soon as possible, and good luck!

SSI usually comes with Medicaid if he qualifies. Sorry he is going through this! We are much better in this country of taking care of you if you are under 18 or over 65, unfortunately. He probably is entitled to COBRA benefits for a defined length of time, (pay a relatively small premium to continue private insurance) so read the fine print on his benefits documentation; you will have to talk to a benefits administrator but make sure they are on the up and up.
